Falling Skies: "A Thing With Feathers" Review

Warning: Full spoilers for the episode follow.


The aftermath of the Espheni attack left the survivors of the 2nd Mass searching for loved ones amongst the rubble of a collapsed building. There’s a lot of emotional exploration this week as both Dingaan and Sara deal with their own personal struggles. Meanwhile, Ben and Hal do everything they can to save someone they love.


Dingaan’s attempt to escape from the rubble of the collapsed building ended up being a personal journey. Up to this point Dingaan had only really been a satellite character, called upon when needed, but we didn’t know much about him. We’re finally given an opportunity to learn about him via his struggle to cope with the impending doom of their perilous situation. I’ll admit, at first I thought his constant panic attacks were more than a little grating. That changed when he broke down emotionally and revealed how his son had died due to what he perceived to be his own negligence and also how his wife had drunk herself to death due to the grief. It’s a crushing revelation and does an incredible amount to add sense of emotional attachment to someone who was underdeveloped at this point. The way the rhythmic beat of the Espheni bomb were tied into the story was well handled.
