Between Spider-Men and Cataclysm, Brian Bendis is currently 1 for 2 when it comes to writing crossovers between the regular and Ultimate versions of the Marvel Universe. This issue of All-New X-Men kicks off another multi-dimensional crossover, and so far it looks to follow more in Spider-Men’s footsteps. Which is to say, things are looking good so far.
Aside from a brief glimpse into the Ultimate U. and some banter between Tony Stark and Amadeus Cho, the focus in this issue remains largely on the X-Men. With most of the adults off dealing with the events of “The Last Will and Testament of Charles Xavier,” the younger X-Men are left to their own devices. The early pages are focused mainly on X-23 slowly settling into her new role and accepting the idea that maybe her life doesn’t have to be a giant ball of sadness and rage all the time. Bendis clearly has fun playing the various personalities off of one another. It makes me miss young Cyclops’ presence, but there’s plenty of good dialogue and interatio nto be had regardless.
