More than introducing the misguided villain Clash or adding to the lineup of Spider-Man’s supporting characters, Learning to Crawl is about exploring Peter Parker’s painful transition from super-powered show-boater to selfless superhero. As we see in this fourth issue, Peter is making decent progress. He’s adjusting to his new lot in life, making friends, doing well in school, and supporting himself and Aunt May with his photography. But he’s also on the verge of retiring Spider-Man and letting those powers go to waste. Good thing there’s always that infamous Parker Luck to kick in when things start going too smoothly for Pete.
