You can't say he didn't warn us. Saga returns with issue #22, creators Brian K. Vaughn and Fiona Staples delivering another complex and riveting read.
The writing has been on the wall for a few issues now. The crack in Alana and Marko's relationship has become more noticeable with each passing page, their doubts palpable and raw. This issue sees that crack become a chasm in a fleeting but damaging encounter that gives light to a number of unspoken truths. Vaughn has done an amazing job setting up this moment, telling Marko and Alana's stories separate from one another but allowing we, the reader, to follow each. When they finally come together, all that hurt and guilt and anger that boils to the surface feels completely earned, so totally are we invested in these characters. Though it's tough to witness, it's also incredible, on a number of levels.
