Punisher can be a very difficult character with which to find a new and creative take. He's a very simple guy at the end of the day. And if there isn't a writer who can find that new take, there's no reason to publish a monthly Punisher comic. Unfortunately, there just isn't enough new and different about this latest volume. Nathan Edmondson is able to shake up Frank's world by degrees - moving him to LA, bolstering the supporting cast, and having Frank operate in that murky world between the purview of ordinary cops and honest superheroes. But at the end of the day, there's a lot in this series that feels familiar.
