Zynga, the web and mobile game publisher, is moving into the sports category following several new partnerships, the company announced today.
The partnerships include both the NFL and NFL Players Inc. (the licensing arm of the NFL), as well as the professional golfer Tiger Woods. Zynga said it will use these markets' demographics to expand into new areas with simulation and mobile titles.
NFL Showdown went live this morning in select regions. The game places players in the role of general manager, coach and owner as they interact with NFL players throughout the year. Zynga describes it as a "mobile-first simulation game." Judging by the publisher's history of releasing games like Farmville and Words with Friends, NFL Showdown will also have a plethora of multiplayer social aspects.
