Swamp Thing #29 Review

ST-Cv29-ds-87eae How do you top Scott Snyder’s amazing run on Swamp Thing? Just do what Charles Soule is doing! Soule has managed to create a Swamp Thing that maintains the quality of Snyder’s run while giving us his own boomingly great interpretation. Issue #29 begins a new arc filled with fresh ideas, great choice character moments, and deadly consequences!


Soule’s Swamp Thing has placed a particular importance on its supporting characters. While this has proven to be a detriment at times to the character of Swamp Thing, it has only been a boon to the book itself. The former avatars continue to play important roles in this new chapter. In particular, the Lady and the Wolf are playing at some kind of game here and while it’s certainly entertaining to watch, the consequences are too far out to know at this point. A new group called the Sureen is further explored in this issue, and the consequences of their actions are made much clearer even if their full intentions remain a mystery. Of course, Swamp Thing himself is caught up in the middle of all of this, and his future is left tantalizingly uncertain by the issue’s end.
