The Fear is Real in PlayStation 4’s Bloodborne

At E3 this past June, I was lucky enough to attend a behind-closed-doors demo of Bloodborne, the upcoming PlayStation 4-exclusive title under development at From Software, the Japanese studio best-known for Demon’s Souls and both Dark Souls titles. Bloodborne is crafted in much the same way – and with the same spirit – as those games, a likely (and smart) attempt by Sony to recapture the exclusivity it once had over the formula with Demon’s Souls in particular.


In short: it’s still all about brutal difficulty, even if the name of the game is different this time around.


At that time, the demo was given by Hidetaki Miyazaki, the famous director of From Software and the man leading the charge during Bloodborne’s development. Watching him and his associate play through a portion of the story, it became clear to me that Bloodborne had exactly what I wanted, something Demon’s Souls and Dark Souls didn’t have: a touch of speed. It’s why I proclaimed that Bloodborne had made me a believer in the formula trail-blazed by its predecessors.
