Snow, by its own developers’ admission, aims to be “the Skate of skiing game.” Another elevator-pitch phrase I heard used to describe it was, “Skyrim Skiing.” While the latter may be a bit optimistic, the former is a more apt comparison. “There are no good winter sports games out there
,” laments Snow co-creator Alexander Bergendahl.
Snow wants to do for skiing what SSX did for snowboarding – but it desires to be a much more realistic depiction of the venerable winter activity. “We took a page from EA’s Skate series,” Bergendahl explains, “And said, ‘We should take that and apply it to the snow space.’”
To that end, Snow is driven by a physics-based movement system that lends weight and momentum to its downhill jams. “We built the game as dynamic as possible,” Bergendahl says. “We’ve spent a lot of time working on physics and behind-the-scenes mechanics.” And by “we” he means the nine-person team – triple the initial trio that started Snow.
