Genius was the winner of Top Cow's 2008 Pilot Season. Needless to say, it's taken quite a while for the resulting mini-series to appear. Co-writers Mark Bernardin and Adam Freeman venture pretty far outside the usual Top Cow fare for this tale of gang warfare in urban Los Angeles. But while the general premise is sound, Genius suffers from very haphazard execution. Aside from the central character the title refers to, there are no developed characters to speak of, and no clear sense of direction for the series.
