What a difference two months makes. Back in June I had my first glimpse at Dead Rising 2 at E3 and came away unimpressed. Hardly surprising, because the version of the game on show then dated back to 2013. Now, despite still being at pre-Alpha stage, Dead Island 2 finally looks to deliver on the promise made by the blood-soaked trailer released earlier this week.
The most noticeable improvement over the E3 demo is how the game looks. It’s a huge leap forward, bursting with detail and, for want of a better word, life. The sun-kissed suburbs of California provide the backdrop for the bloodbath, with the undead rising up beneath the Hollywood hills. The glow of the low afternoon sun basks the deserted streets and ransacked houses in warmth, but don’t be misled by the apparent calm – this place is crawling with zombies, from rambling walkers to new enemies we’ve not faced before.
