Remember video game demos? Congratulations on being born before 1990 and a lifetime of avoiding a traumatic head-injury! Unfortunately, aside from the studio that brought us Zumba World Party and a handful of others, video game developers seem to have largely forgotten about game demos.
Worse still, even the ones that do still remember demos are getting them hilariously wrong. Want to know how many times Capcom will let you play the 20 minute Dead Rising 3 demo on Xbox One? Twice. That's a 7GB+ demo, by the way. If you can actually find it on the Xbox Marketplace, that is.
Perhaps turned off by the cost of putting them together in the first place, or perhaps by research that reportedly suggests that releasing a demo can actually reduce the number of games a developer sells by up to half, demos are quickly going the way of the Pinguinus impennis; hunted to extinction by fishermen for their valuable meat. Or the dodo, if you’d prefer a slightly more predictable analogy.
