The Stand Loses Another Director

Scott Cooper, whose Out of the Furnace starring Christian Bale hits theaters on December 6, will no longer be directing the long-gestating movie adaptation of The Stand, based on Stephen King's classic horror-fantasy novel. Cooper was the latest filmmaker to take the reins after replacing Ben Affleck in August.


According to THR, the reason for Cooper's departure is uncertain. The old standby, "over creative differences," was mentioned by a number of insiders, but one source said that it came down to the film's rating. Apparently, Cooper was gunning for an R rating (in keeping with King's source material), and Warner Bros., naturally, wanted PG-13.
