After spending over a year in beta, Hi-Rez Studios has announced the release date of its 3D mythology-themed multiplayer online battle arena (MOBA) SMITE. Players will be able to join the free-to-play fray on March 25, 2014. Additionally, Hi-Rez is throwing a $100,000 LAN tournament to commemorate the occasion.
Throughout the SMITE beta, which began in May 2012, over 2.5 million players registered for the game. For those who have spent a significant amount of time and money in SMITE's Open Beta, all of that progress will carry over to the game's general release in March. In addition, anyone who reaches level 30 before March 25 will unlock the Cacodemon skin for the God Ymir.
