Minor spoilers for Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit follow.
In October 2009, news broke that Paramount Pictures would reboot Tom Clancy's Jack Ryan series (which included The Hunt for Red October, Patriot Games, Clear and Present Danger, and The Sum of All Fears) with Star Trek star Chris Pine in the leading role. On January 17, 2014, after jumping scheduling hurdles and settling on a creative duo of writer David Koepp (Jurassic Park) and director Kenneth Branagh (Thor), Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit finally hits theaters.
Monday night, Paramount screened select footage from their long-gestating tentpole, with Pine on hand to present the reel, taking a break from his duties as Cinderella's Prince in the currently-shooting Into the Woods. And any worry that Jack Ryan would arrive with battle scars from the windy road to realization were immediately put to rest. The brief footage we saw is slick as hell and, perhaps more importantly, audiences got a taste of a different side of Pine. This is not the James T. Kirk of the U.S.S. Enterprise dressed in an Armani suit. Pine agrees.
