PayDay 2 Director David Goldfarb Leaves Overkill, Developing New RPG

David Goldfarb, game director on PayDay 2, has left Overkill Software to found a new studio. Alongside three ex-DICE developers, Goldfarb will develop a role-playing game of some sort, with a scale that’s “bigger than PayDay 2.”


For Goldfarb, this comes at an incredible cost: He will not play any other RPG until his new game is done.


“The only way I can make stuff is to not worry about what anybody else is doing,” he told IGN. “The moment you do that, you’re f***ed.”’


As an enormous fan of Dark Souls, Goldfarb refuses to let himself play Dark Souls 2. If he looks at Dark Souls 2, Bloodborne, or other role-playing games he finds attractive, “they’ll have an effect on me that will...it won’t ruin anything, but it will taint what I’m doing in some way.”
