Telling a completely new tale set in the dystopian future realm of the first film, The Purge: Anarchy follows Leo (Captain America: The Winter Soldier's Frank Grillo) on a mission of vengeance during the annual 12-hour Purge sanctioned by the New Founders of America. Leo is a good, but broken man who otherwise wouldn't be Purging except for a personal tragedy that drives him.
While en route to his mission, Leo reluctantly comes to the rescue of Eva (Carmen Ejogo) and her teenage daughter Cali (Zoe Soul), who have been ripped from their barricaded apartment by heavily armed shock troops tasked with poaching humans. They're also on the run from a gang of marauding teens, all of whom are masked or covered in Joker-style war paint. Both camps of villains are far scarier and violent than the home invaders of the last film.
