Rocket Raccoon #1 Review

With the Guardians of the Galaxy set to make their cinematic debut in the coming weeks, interest in Marvel’s most eclectic family is at an all time high. While fans will likely delight in seeing Star-Lord, Gamora and the like on screen, let’s be real – everyone is really in it for the raccoon. Rocket Raccoon makes his triumphant solo debut, spurred by the enjoyable writing and expressive art of maestro Skottie Young. Though not without its faults, Rocket Raccoon #1 is fast, furry and above all, fun.


Following the events of Marvel’s Guardian themed Infinite Comics, Rocket Raccoon #1 dives in mid caper, Rocket’s initial appearance both surprising and amusing. From there the book wastes little time, a simple, totally romantic wrestling date quickly turning pear-shaped as Rocket is accused of a murder (or three) that he didn’t commit. Turns out, there’s another not-a-raccoon out and about, dispelling Rocket’s repeated claim that he’s the last of his kind. This set-up allows for a host of amusing set pieces, Rocket moving from one problem to the next with an increasingly enjoyable feistiness.
