PlayStation's Japanese arm released a YouTube video, embedded below, that talks about its "Official Licensed Product" promotions. But within that video is a hidden little nugget of data: PS4, PS3, and Vita combined have sold over a hundred million units worldwide.
The idea of Sony bringing this figure up in this video is, of course, to entice third party peripheral manufacturers to create devices for the PlayStation ecosystem. But for those of us outside of that market, the admission of PlayStation's overall sales since PS3 indicates that the ecosystem is doing well.
Indeed, we can even garner some additional data from this number using numbers we already know.
We last heard about PlayStation 4's sales numbers in April, when it was revealed that PS4 passed the 7 million sold mark. PS4 has been selling well in the west since then (though not so well in Japan), so we can assume that number, at this point, is north of 8 million sold.
