Fables #142 Review

Bill Willingham and Mark Buckingham are holding nothing back in the final arc of their modern classic series Fables. As shown by the cover art, Bigby Wolf makes his triumphant return while Snow White and Rose Red continue to inch closer to war. This makes Fables #142 mostly set up, but it's the promise of what's to come that makes this such a great read.

Willingham is playing it smart by bringing the whole series full circle. The first arc focused on the problems between Snow White and Rose Red, and now at the end we're seeing it come back to the forefront of the series but flipped upside down. Snow White is now the one without power while Rose Red is the darling of Fabletown and the Farm. Bigby's return is the highlight of this issue. It's an unexpected twist and will set up some very emotional moments down the road.
