Warning: full episode spoilers follow.
One of the weird things about Dominion is how little it feels like a continuation of the movie Legion at times. Tonally, stylistically - even in terms of the setting - it's a very different show. Not that any of that is a bad thing. That said, "Broken Places" did feel more in line with Legion than the previous two episodes. With its focus on Alex venturing outside Vega's walls and into the post-apocalyptic wastelands of the American Southwest, this episode was a lot more Legion-y. The good news is that the episode didn't lose sight of the show's core strengths along the way.
It wasn't just Alex taking a little field trip either. "Broken Places" opened with William Whele meeting Gabriel in a remote desert diner. The homage to Legion was as obvious as last week's "angel defeated by a gas stove explosion" moment. I think these callbacks could get tiresome pretty quickly, but it doesn't hurt right now to remind viewers where this show got its start and its humbler action movie origins.
