The Wake # 9 Review

With one issue left to go, Scott Snyder and Sean Murphy shows no signs of slowing down -- the latest issue in his dark reimagining of The Little Mermaid is packed with the same thrills and chills we've come to expect, filled with historical subplots and a particularly intriguing discovery.

At times throughout the series, Snyder's ambition has threatened to burst the book at the seams, laden with big ideas and razor fine connections. Yet every time a new twist spins the plot further and further around, he finds the emotional tether and brings it right back. Issue #9 is ripe with shocking stuff, none more so than the final page, and yet again Snyder's enormous scope pays off. There's heart, action, bobsledding dolphins-- this is just good comic booking, plain and simple.
