A new Nic Cage action movie seems to come along as often as there are days that end in “Y,” so it takes something extra for any one of them to stand out. While Rage isn’t all that spectacular, it’s a solid enough revenge thriller that brings the bullets with minimal brain activity required.
Cage stars as Paul Maguire, a former gangster turned legitimate businessman living with his (much) younger wife Vanessa (Rachel Nichols) and his daughter Caitlin (Aubrey Peeples). Eventually his violent past catches up to him and someone kidnaps Caitlin, causing Paul to round up his old crew – Kane (Max Ryan) and Danny (Michael McGrady) – to take down the kidnappers. Meanwhile, Detective Peter St. John (Danny Glover) investigates Caitlin’s disappearance while trying to keep Paul on the right side of the law.
