My main complaint with Defiance's Season 2 premiere last week was that it was a fairly quiet way to kick things off, especially considering the major upheaval the comes from having the city taken over by the Earth Republic. Well, the second episode picks up the pace a bit, and after watching it I almost wonder if this should have been the season premiere instead.
Sure, the writers needed a way of reuniting Irisa and Nolan and nudging them back to Defiance. But at the very least, it might have been more interesting if the premiere had focused entirely on those two and their misadventures outside the city. And after a little cross-country road trip that showcased the wider world outside the ruins of St. Louis, this episode and Nolan's little detective adventure could have been a fun way of allowing both Nolan and viewer to become reacquainted with Defiance and its residents simultaneously.
