It would be more accurate to label this comic "Doctor Strange Annual #1," except that the good doctor has no solo series and hasn't been able to support one for some time. Even so, there's a germ of a good ongoing comic in these pages. Writer Frank Barbiere uses Jonathan Hickman's New Avengers saga as a springboard for telling a side-story involving Doctor Strange. It's not necessarily that relevant to Hickman's work, but it does effectively explore the consequences of Strange's recent decision to sacrifice his soul for phenomenal cosmic power.
