It’s probably safe to say that The Superannuated Man is the weirdest book on the new release shelves this week. Ted McKeever’s latest is a bizarre, quirky introduction to a small town by the ocean that has been overrun by anthropomorphic weirdos. The titular character, known only as He, is the last remaining human in this town. He lives on a giant ship just off shore and his best friend is a lifeless mannequin that he talks to nonetheless. As great as McKeever’s writing here is, it’s his art that really sells the book. Black-and-white, craggy, and unsettling, it doesn’t look like anything else in comics these days. Even the lettering is distinct and fitting to the world McKeever sets up here.
