Original Sin #3 Review

Original Sin's one real weak point so far has been an overly sluggish pace. The cliffhanger to Original Sin #2 would have been a fine note to end the first issue on, but I was hoping for more out of the first month of this event storyline. The good news is that the pace picks up considerably in Original Sin #3. This event is quickly beginning to live up to its potential in telling a grand, sweeping murder mystery that involves an eclectic cast and mines the Marvel Universe for its deepest, darkest secrets. If you weren't won over by the first two issues, this chapter might just do the trick.


What I'm appreciating most about Original Sin so far is the way it deviates from the usual event formula. This isn't a story that revolves around alien invasions or some all-powerful foe emerging and promising to pummel Earth's Mightiest heroes into submission. This is a murder mystery, no more and no less. Those few villains that have been revealed so far are merely cogs in some greater machine. This is an event that hinges more on story and plot twists than action and spectacle. And so Original Sin really plays into that "what happens next?" element that makes superhero comics so appealing in the first place.
