Batman '66 has long enjoyed a prominent spot amongst pop culture's elite, aided by the series' zany camp and iconic performances by Adam West and Burt Ward. Though The Green Hornet also enjoyed some popularity during this time, the adventures of newspaperman Britt Reid and his valet Kato never quite reached the status held by the Dynamic Duo. Smart minds realized that two teams were better than one, resulting in one of the first ever super team-ups to hit the screen. Creators Kevin Smith and Ralph Garman aim to deliver their own little slice of history, reuniting the Formidable Foursome (no?) for an enjoyable, and limited, new series.
Fun fact—though DC owns the rights to Batman, Green Hornet is owned by Dynamite Entertainment, making this crossover a truly unprecedented event. Considering that even copyrights have copyrights these days, it’s refreshing to see two companies playing nice in the name of fan service, particularly when said union is done so well. The plot is almost unimportant, the priceless fossil Bruce is set to guard merely a device to bring the two teams together. That said, the narrative is wonderfully witty--when your main villain is a repurposed evolution of an existing character changed to avoid legal issues, that's pretty high-brow stuff.
