Welcome to Courier's Corner, IGN's MOBA-centric letter series.
This week, IGN Editors Mitch Dyer and Leah B. Jackson discuss how Dota 2 has improved their social lives despite the isolating nature of enjoying a genre most look down upon.
Leah,
I think MOBAs have become the new MMORPG, for better and for worse.
Outside of the circle of friends with whom I play Dota 2 or League of Legends, playing these games has a social stigma attached to it. Odd, considering more than 8 million people have played Dota 2 matches this month. (League of Legends boasts more than three times that many active players.) But I can’t shake the feeling that my adoration of Valve’s action-strategy game is somewhat frowned upon.
