Dynamighty Studios: Where Pixar Meets LucasArts

When Dynamighty burst onto the scene last year with its Incredibles-esque creation Counterspy, most gaming fans had the common sense to sit up and take notice. Though its initial title appeared slightly rough around the edges, there was clearly a wealth of potential there, especially seeing as the Metroidvania-style title with an absurdly satirical storyline was the developer’s debut effort. Of course, as is so often the case in this industry, the reality is slightly different. Though the studio may be shiny and new, its founders are veterans who cut their games industry teeth long ago.


Sitting down to chat with co-founder David Nottingham, it’s clear that this is a man who knows what he’s talking about. His voice is soft and his answers are self-assured. It’s easy to believe he spent a number of years working at LucasArts and honing his craft before taking the plunge and opening his own studio. To some it may seem crazy that he decided to leave such a powerhouse, opting to do so before the Disney buyout and its eventual closure. In truth, having spent so many years working on triple-A titles, it was a desire for deeper ownership over projects that finally encouraged him to make that initial leap.
