Assassin's Creed Pirates, the mobile installment in Ubisoft's expansive franchise, is the App Store's free app of the week, along with a new update.
Pirates released in December, as a companion app to Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag. The fourth update follows players as they explore the Isla de Juventud, wherein players can destroy a prison fortress and, in doing so, unlock new rewards. Ubisoft has also implemented a daily reward system, which entices players to play the mobile game more often in the interest of accruing more riches.
The update also adds ship customization. Although Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag capitalized on the immersive naval combat introduced in Assassin's Creed III, Pirates doesn't follow suit. In IGN's review, we praised the mobile app's exploration aspects, but felt the combat was too repetitive to justify extended playtime.
