The more I see Destiny, the more I “get it.” The more I look at it, the more I appreciate its subtle visual touches that make this barren future-Earth a gorgeous place. The more I play it, the more I start to love it.
In other words, the longer I’m logged in to Destiny, the less I ever want to log out.
Its grand vision has long been trumpeted, but even in our first hands-on taste recently, our peek into its world was almost frustratingly small. But this time I was permitted hours with a restricted alpha build of Destiny, running on live servers on the PS4. This slice only included one level-3 story mission (dubbed “The Dark Within”), a level-6 Strike mission (“The Devil’s Lair”), a neverending series of exploration missions (read: sidequests), and a taste of the Crucible – Destiny’s nomenclature for PvP multiplayer. Oh, and the Tower too, which is the noncombat hub – the town, if you will – where you can casually interact with other players, visit shopkeepers, take quests, get armor emblems, and more.
