I'm always wary of any comic based on a screenplay. Comic scripts and movie scripts are by no means meant to be interchangeable. I'm also equally wary of any new comic featuring vampires. 'Nuff said on that front. But Bushido (based on Shahin Chandrasoma's screenplay Rising Sun) manages to find that novel spin on vampires by throwing pirates and samurai into the mix as well. The first issue of this new series is clever enough to stand out, but both its pacing issues and an art style that favors detail over storytelling suggest it hasn't completely shed its screenplay roots.
