Scarlett Johansson Talks Captain America 2

Not content with a shout-out in the pilot episode of Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., Scarlett Johansson has taken a moment out of promoting her new movie, Don Jon, to talk Black Widow, Steve Rogers and, yes, form-fitting clothing. Turns out, skintight rubber suits? Not ideal for stunt work.

ScarJo (please let that nickname stick) recently sat down with the fashion-minded folks at Refinery 29 for an interview. (Don’t act like you don’t read it.) Buried amid the usual fluff - diet, workouts, nude scenes, blah blah blah - were a few tidbits about Captain America 2 and the actress’ take on superhero cinema in general. Johansson is quoted as saying the majority of pre-Whedon superhero movies (at least with regard to female characters) “were simply not well made,” which, um, okay. But don’t worry! Natasha Romanov isn’t all about “spinning through the air and putting your hands on your hips.”

Wii U System Update Enables Wii Games to Display on GamePad

A recent system update from Nintendo adds a bunch of new features to Wii U, including the ability to output Wii games on the GamePad.

It's important to emphasize that Wii games displayed on the GamePad still require a Wii remote (and nunchuck attachment) in order to play. Here's a quick list of other features included in this update:

 • The ability to automatically receive recommended demos and software using SpotPass.

 • The ability to disable Nintendo ID use via smartphone or web browser

 • USB keyboard support

 • A dedicated friend list icon on the Wii U Menu

 • Support for Dolby Pro Logic II Surround Sound when playing Wii software

Avengers 2: James Spader Talks Ultron

It's been about a month since we learned that James Spader will be playing the villainous robot Ultron in Joss Whedon and Marvel's The Avengers: Age of Ultron. During a promo circuit for his new TV show The Blacklist, Spader gave an update on Avengers 2, noting that he's already begun preparing for his role.

James Spader was Joss Whedon's First Pick for Ultron

"I have spoken to Joss Whedon about it," Spader told The Inquirer. "Just this weekend I went in for them to take very extensive photographs, head scans, body scans, and all kinds of things in preparation for figuring out how the hell I'm gonna fit in this Ultron character!"

Microsoft's Streaming Service May Be Called 'Rio'

A recent demo at Microsoft's annual company meeting may have leaked the rumored cloud streaming service, along with more information regarding the service.

The cloud service, formerly known as "Ridgeway," is now called "Rio," CNet reports.

The service will, reportedly, allow Microsoft to stream games over the internet to various devices, such as Windows phones or Windows on PC. The Verge reported last week that Halo 4 was shown in a Rio demo, and that the game ran smoothly on both the phone and PC in question.

What Did You Think of the Breaking Bad Finale?

*Warning, spoilers will be discussed below this sentence!*

Breaking Bad is over and we've given our take on the finale. We even tried to predict the ending. Did we get it right?

Regardless of our fantastic ability to predict the future, the show has also struck a strong chord with people that will last a long time. Most are calling Breaking Bad the greatest show ever while others have some reservations awarding it that title. So we wanted to know what you thought of the finale and here's what you said:

Watch This Wonder Woman Viral Short Film

Well, here's one way you could make a Wonder Woman feature film. Check out the viral fan-made short below which is stylistically sort of a cross between 300, Sucker Punch, and the Clash of the Titans remake (with a video game vibe thrown in for good measure):

A Wonder Woman feature film remains in development hell and so far two small screen attempts have both been canned. Time will tell if Wonder Woman is the unnamed, athletic female lead Zack Snyder seeks for his Man of Steel sequel as some -- OK, me -- have speculated.

And in case you missed these other Wonder Woman short films that made the rounds earlier this year:

Beware the Batman: "Sacrifice" Review

Full Bat-spoilers follow.

This weekend's Beware the Batman episode, "Sacrifice," offered lots of enjoyable moments, but perhaps the most noteworthy aspect of it was what it indicated is yet to come with its final tease. Yes, an A-list bat-villain has entered the mix…

Ra's al Ghul lives!

Well, lives-ish. I'm not sure what his status is at the moment, as he appears sort of mummified and in some kind of stasis when Lady Shiva addresses him here. But clearly the longtime foe of the Dark Knight Detective will come into play as the major heavy of the second half of the season… for better or worse.

Many fans will see this as a reason to celebrate, and will perhaps even perceive the inclusion of Ra's as an admission of failure on the part of the Beware creators regarding their bid to go with lesser known villains on the show. But I would disagree with that notion, as we've been hearing for some time now that at least one major baddie would show up this season. And besides, I wonder how many people really knew about Ra's al Ghul anyway before Chris Nolan's Batman Begins was released. Of course a lot of us geeks were aware of him, but this guy isn't quite on the level of the Joker or the Penguin when it comes to mainstream recognition.

Poll: 64% Won't Buy Next-Gen, PS4 Slightly Preferred to Xbox One

In a limited poll surveying 1,297 people, 64% of respondents stated they would not buy new video game hardware this holiday season, according to Reuters. This includes, of course, next-generation consoles such as PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, as well as Nintendo's upcoming 2DS or Valve's recently revealed Steam Machines.

Just 26% of those surveyed expressed interest in purchasing a PlayStation 4, while 15% said they were likely to purchase an Xbox One. Of the 408 respondents younger than 40 years old, 41% opted for PlayStation 4 and 27% chose Xbox One.

100 Little Things in GTA 5 That Will Blow Your Mind

Grand Theft Auto V is a creative triumph.

It’s a game where twilit moments of calm can be abruptly interrupted by… anything. A plane crash. A cougar attack. A police chase. And yet chaos and calm both feel right at home in Los Santos, Rockstar’s larger-than-life version of Los Angeles, and the surrounding countryside.

But it’s arguably GTA 5’s slavish, beyond-obsessive attention to the tiniest details that truly sets the game apart from other AAA blockbusters. These millions of bits of minutia add up to create a game world unlike any other.

Below are the 100 mind-blowing “tiny things” in GTA V that caught our eye and make San Andreas such an incredible, believable space. Easter eggs and amusing character-switching moments have intentionally been excluded - this is strictly a list of 100 examples of Rockstar's peerless attention to detail, not a list of best moments.

Disgaea D2 Review

It only took 10 years, but Laharl, Etna, and Flonne are finally reunited and it was totally worth the wait. Disgaea D2 continues the capers of the original trio while delivering the same social-life-threatening grind of fighting, looting, and leveling the franchise is known for. All the over-the-top, prinny-tossing, tower-attacking mayhem is here, and the banter between the main characters is the best it’s been since the series began. What's more, the new monster mounts and Demon Dojo systems open up the already voluminous combat options, making Disgaea D2 a bottomless, color-soaked pit of endless depth that I was happy to tumble down.

The Netherworld’s most dastardly demons are up to no good again, and the story is so much the better for it. For a series that’s so consistently meaty in terms of gameplay, Disgaea has felt surprisingly off its game since it moved on to tell new stories with different characters, and the positive impact of the original cast’s return can be felt immediately. The writing is snappy, silly, and deliciously mischievous. The whole voice cast sounds like they’re having a blast, but Etna’s anime episode parodies really steal the show, firmly cementing the same self-aware anime campiness that made the original a classic.

Guerilla Games' New IP 'Completely Different' From Killzone

Guerilla Games is working on a new IP, rather than a Killzone sequel, as its follow-up to November's Killzone: Shadow Fall. The Sony-owned studio won't specify what the title, is, but specifically wants to separate itself from tradition.

"As a studio we do want to branch out," lead designer Eric Boltjes told Eurogamer, "and we have started work on a new IP, something completely different to Killzone. I don't want to say anything about it right now, but as a studio we do want to keep it fresh."

Designers whose work is completed on Shadow Fall, the development on which is nearly complete, recently moved on to the new project. "The really tricky part about that phase is not trying to do too much," Boltjes explained. "You have a room full of people and they all have a different idea of what they want to change about the game. They can't do everything, especially if you only have two-and-a-half years to build it."

Sony: Killzone: Shadow Fall is 50GB

Guerilla Games' debut PlayStation 4 launch game, Killzone: Shadow Fall, is "an uber file" of 50GB, according to Sony UK's Fergal Gara.

"I think it's cracking on for 50GB," Gara told Eurogamer. "It looks it, too, when you see it." Gara continued to explain that downloading massive games "is still a relatively tedious process. We've done a lot of work on pre-delivering files. It's not perfect. It's not seamless." This, perhaps, further explains a little more why Shadow Fall won't have a locked frame rate of 60.

What if Breaking Bad Was a Video Game?

As Breaking Bad concludes, it’s easy to rank it as one of, if not the, best television drama of all time. The characters have the sort of depth that causes us to become emotionally attached, while the plot is riveting and addictive. But what if Breaking Bad wasn’t a show, but an action game? What plot points would have changed and what characters would have reached a much different fate?

Steam Controller: Developers Weigh In

Following Valve’s announcement of the Steam Controller last week, many people were left asking the same question: what will it feel like?

While IGN probably won’t get its hands on Valve’s first hardware for some time, we reached out to a few developers who have already been lucky enough to test out the prototype. It’s still early and the final controller hasn’t been finished (as Valve mentioned last week, these protoypes “have four buttons in place of the touch screen and require a USB cable”), but these early thoughts give us our first insight into exactly how Valve’s controller might change gaming moving forward.

Assassin's Creed 4 Hands-On: By Land, Sea, and Multiplayer

Odds are, the full day we recently spent playing Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag is the last crack at the pirate-y Templar adventure we’ll get before we review the final version this month. We got a look at each unique facet of the game and made it home scurvy-free to report our findings.

I played all of Sequence 03 in Black Flag and I must admit: I liked it, but I didn’t love it. And this is coming from someone who loved Assassin’s Creed II, skipped the rest of the Ezio Trilogy, and was turned off by the opening hours of AC III. Fortunately, it’s just one small slice of the campaign and so I remain optimistic, but for me, thar be murky waters ahead, matey.

I spent a couple of hours sailing, roaming island ports, and platforming, and a lot of the time it simply felt like an endless series of time-filling fetch quests. Sure, the art direction and geography conveys a great sense of scale and location (playing on the PS4 sure didn’t hurt, either) and the open-seas stuff gets downright tense (as Goldfarb will cover below), but the actual thread that pulls you through the Sequence seemed a bit lacking in weight and intensity.

We Are Men: Series Premiere Review

Advance Review: Honestly, with a title like We Are Men, and the basic premise of four bachelors (i.e. "survivors of multiple failed marriages"), this new CBS single-camera sitcom had the potential to be far more asinine than it actually is. Which could have helped the show out a little bit, perhaps giving it an offensive edge that would stir up controversy. Or hurt it more by making the show needlessly reprehensible. And, let's face it, deplorable comedy on CBS gets an automatic pass.

As it stands though, We Are Men just plays as bland and milquetoast as its lead (actor Chris Smith), featuring a ton of jokes, set-ups and scenarios that you've seen a hundred times before in many other shows and movies. It's a hodge-podge of mediocrity designed to go down like a chewy children's vitamin - with, of course, the underlying message that women are all soul-sucking demons designed to prevent men from having any fun.

Are You Ready for the Most Exciting Era of Racing Games in 40 Years?

40 years. That’s how long we’ve been playing racing games. That’s seven US presidents, or one-and-a-bit Cameroonian ones. We’ve been trying to coerce blobs of pixels and/or polygons around the guts of our consoles and computers for four decades.

1973. That’s the year we realised we could use the power of computer processing to race things against other things. The first things were space ships because of course they were. Space Race was only the second arcade game published by Atari (the first was Pong). It was released in July, 1973 and featured a pair of space ships racing through a cloud of dandruff flecks masquerading as meteors. Shaped like what you’d get if you gave a four-year-old a pointed stick and two-and-a-half seconds to draw a rocket, Space Race’s jagged interstellar shuttles nonetheless kickstarted a love affair with piloting virtual vehicles through some form of 2D- or 3D-space faster than the jerk next to you.

Low Winter Sun: "Revelations" Review

Spoilers for the episode follow.

This episode of Low Winter Sun is a strange beast. At first glance, it’s completely irrelevant to the ongoing story of the death of McCann and Agnew and Geddes’ cover-up, as it follows Agnew’s testimony on a case that he and Geddes closed some time ago. As the episode progresses, however, there are clever thematic connections made between this off-screen case and the current woes of Detroit’s finest.

While I appreciate the attempt at thematic symmetry, there are simply too many threads being juggled and pushed to the side in this episode for it to feel like a true success. Between the threat on Maya and Sean’s kids by Skelos, Khalil becoming an informant of sorts for Boyd, Agnew on the hunt for Katia, Geddes letting Dawson in on the truth behind McCann’s death, Damon plotting to kill Skelos… the balancing act is difficult, and the show’s struggle to give every thread their just due is only highlighted by odd little detours.

Boardwalk Empire: "All In" Review

Warning: Full spoilers for the episode follow...

Yes, I lament the lack of Harrow and his usual beautiful poetic morbidity this week, but I think we could all tell, after last week's episode, that he was headed for a break story-wise. However, "All In" wound up being the most wicked and perversely satisfying episode of the seasons to date - kicking off its theme of "good time funnin' around" in Dean O'Banion's flower shop, with O'Banion rigging a gun to explode in his employee's face. Van Alden later confessed to Capone that O'Banion was into pranks, "the violent sort," right before Capone then handed him gun to use on that same poor employee. Who just happened to sleeping off his facial injuries in the back of one of O'Banion's booze trucks.

Once Upon a Time: Season 3 Premiere Review

Note: Full spoilers for the episode follow.

Electric sparks during a flashback to Henry's birth set the tone for an exciting return to the magical lands of Once Upon a Time. Happily, they dove right back into adventure mode as Hook's ship arrived to Neverland.

Once isn't known for it's comedy, but the premiere had a couple of laugh out loud moments – and not because of ridiculousness. They punched through the fourth wall with Neal telling Mulan about her movie and though they aren't usually so direct with the Disney references, it works. And even if Snow and Charming are playing archetypes with their optimism, it gets old. I delighted in hearing Regina call out Snow for wanting to make things better with “rainbow kisses and unicorn stickers” was hilarious. Gold stars, Regina. She's saying what the audience wants to say.

Homeland Season Premiere Review

Full spoilers follow.

It seems that one needs to enter this third season of Showtime's Homeland fully aware that the series has long since deviated from its (relatively) realistic approach in Season 1. The show's spiral into more pulpish adventures was well documented and fretted about in the press as the second season unfolded a year ago, but now that we've put the Vice President's death by remote-controlled heart attack behind us and any number of other 24-esque scenarios, we need to accept that the veneer of realism has long since gone out the window for the continuing tale of Carrie Mathison and Nicholas Brody.

After one of the longest previously ons ever, "Tin Man Is Down" picks up about two months after last year's finale, which saw a devastating attack on CIA headquarters. Langley is still partially in ruins, over 200 hundred people are dead, and Carrie is facing a closed-door Senate Committee about the attack. Claire Danes, who just picked up her second Emmy for Homeland, is back in full Carrie mode, of course, off her meds and blaming herself for the incident even while she impossibly takes a stab at clearing the name of the chief suspect in the attack, the now on-the-lam Brody. That might be the right thing to do, but in this situation the right thing isn't really the right thing. As it turns out, she winds up being held in contempt of Congress as her exact whereabouts after the attack are called into question. (She was actually helping old Brody get across the border, don't ya know?)

My Defining Moment as a Football Manager

A month or so back, Sports Interactive’s Football Manager 2013 was the highlight in a SEGA sale and, as an avid fan of the sport (Liverpool, if you’re asking), I made sure to take advantage. Although there are folks obsessive about the insanely deep management sim to a degree that I can’t even conceive (though, I highly recommend reading this piece as one such example, echoing many stories I’ve heard from players about their experiences), the game has been an on/off staple of my life, right from when it was originally known as Championship Manager and was published by Eidos.

Having not played the series for four or five years, I finally found time to start up a game this past week. Opting to manage Liverpool, as I always do, I marvelled at the interface changes made since I last played and then set about deciding how to improve my squad on such a limited budget. It was at this stage I was reminded of the last time I’d ventured into the franchise and was hit with a flashback to one of the most surreal moments that’s ever happened to me since I started gaming. Truth be told, I’m a little surprised I hadn’t thought to write about this before.

Hello Ladies: Series Premiere Review

Invariably, if you look online for an overarching plot synopsis for HBO's new comedy Hello Ladies, it'll say something about an Englishman looking for love in Los Angeles. Which, aside from the "Englishman" and "Los Angeles" parts, is pretty inaccurate. It's more like "Gratingly desperate Englishman trying to have meaningless sex with beautiful women as quickly and lazily as possible."

If you're a fan of comedies filled with awkward situations -- you know, those cringe-worthy moments of social embarrassment -- then Hello Ladies may be your cup of tea. But how's this for a twist? You'll be actively rooting, on behalf of all the women in Los Angeles, for Stephen Merchant's Stuart to fail at his exceedingly tactless and boorish attempts to insta-bed them.

Breaking Bad: The Final Episode is Here Tonight!

Tonight is a huge night in TV, as Breaking Bad airs its final episode. The incredibly acclaimed series is wrapping up, after 62 episodes, on a high note, with more viewers than it's ever had in its history, as more and more people caught on to the series, and just a week after winning the Emmy for Best Drama and Anna Gunn's win for best supporting actress. (Don't fret for Bryan Cranston and Aaron Paul, who didn't win this year, but have multiple Emmys at this point for their excellent work on the series.)

The IGN crew predicts the ending to Breaking Bad:

What if You Don't Like Breaking Bad's Ending?

First off, no, I don’t expect the Breaking Bad finale will be bad. I think it’ll be awesome! The show’s been excellent from the start and these final run of episodes have been incredible, delivering one amazing moment after the other.

But look, everyone won’t be happy with how things end Sunday night. That’s just how it is. Some fans will wish Walter White’s story wrapped up in a different way than Vince Gilligan gives us, whether they think the ending was too kind to Walt, too cruel to Walt, too disturbing, not disturbing enough, etc., etc… You can’t please everyone and it’s already clear looking at how some Breaking Bad fans view certain characters and plotlines vs. how others do that people are reacting to Breaking Bad in their own ways.

Metallica Through the Never Review

One Direction, Katy Perry and even Michael Jackson have all recently had sizeable hits with concert movies. And now it’s Metallica’s turn.

However, much like the way in which the band’s 2004 documentary Some Kind of Monster changed how we’ll view these temperamental rock gods forever, Metallica Through the Never way well change the way we look at gig flicks for good.

That’s because director Nimrod Antal (Predators, Vacancy) and the boys have decided to weave a narrative into the concert. So the gig – which is very much a greatest hits set – is juxtaposed with a young roadie’s journey into hell.

Bay Tweets New Transformers 4 Photo

Director Michael Bay tweeted a new official still of lead actors Mark Wahlberg, Nicola Peltz, and Jack Reynor on the set of Transformers: Age Of Extinction.

The photo seen below shows the trio -- Wahlberg plays the father of Peltz's character, while Reynor is her boyfriend -- at a location that looks something like Radiator Springs from the Cars movies.

MechWarrior Online Review

My mech weighs 70 tons, and I feel every pound as I plod along the streets of a frozen-over metropolis. It's been a long time since I sat in a MechWarrior game’s cockpit, and controlling this tank-like mech’s arms, torso, and legs independently feels like trying to pedal a bicycle with my hands. Then I see the other team’s first volley of long-range missiles arcing over the mountain ridge. They slam into me with a force of a freight train and my alarm systems scream bloody murder in my ear. It’s all certainly very raucous, and fights are intense at times, but after 20 matches of the same thing it’s become less exciting. It’s a long, tough road to become an adept MechWarrior Online player, and without more modes and variety, I don’t think it’ll hold my interest long enough to get there.

Hannibal Star Talks Season 2

Hannibal came out of the gate strong this spring, turning out to be one of the most creative and clever new TV shows of the year. Under the expert guidance of Bryan Fuller, the iconic horror character was given a fresh and exciting new interpretation, as we followed the fascinating dynamic between Hannibal Lecter (Mas Mikkelsen) and Will Graham (Hugh Dancy).

Playing an important role in the show is Dr. Alana Bloom (Caroline Dhavernas), a protégé of Hannibal’s and colleague of Will’s who finds herself swept up in the macabre happenings that surround Lecter and Graham. With Season 1 of Hannibal having just been released on Blu-ray and DVD this week, I spoke to Dhavernas about her role on Hannibal, reuniting with Fuller a decade after they made the cult classic Wonderfalls together and what’s to come for Alana in Hannibal: Season 2, which recently began production.

TV Podcast: Dexter's End, SHIELD's Beginning

Hey guys, Eric here, as Matt Fowler joins me this week for a new Channel Surfing. We start off talking about a lot of comic book TV show news, including the announcement that Jim Gordon will get his own FOX TV series, Gotham, the possibility of a Peggy Carter Marvel/ABC series and the reveal that The Walking Dead is getting a spinoff, or "companion series."

Our conversation then turns to this week's many series premieres, as we chat about the likes of The Millers and The Michael J. Fox Show. And then, returning to the comic book TV show theme, we discuss the premiere episode of Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. (beginning at 45:00) and what we thought of the much-hyped series.

The Artistic Legacy of the Legend of Zelda Wind Waker

“We have something else for you today. I’d like to introduce you to a little friend of mine who you’ve all been so kind to talk so much about.”

With those words, Nintendo and legendary game designer Shigeru Miyamoto unveiled the then-new animated look for Link in The Legend of Zelda: Wind Waker at E3 2002. But as the trailer played up on the big screen, the members of the press in the crowded room watched silently before applause. Plenty of big trade show trailers and demos have received a similar polite response, but the reaction to the cell shaded look (dubbed Cel-da by the internet community) seems tepid compared to the booming reaction to Twilight Princess in 2004. The crowd roared to life once they laid eyes on the return of adult Link, as he rode through a dark valley on horseback.

Day of the Tentacle HD, Wii U Star Wars Among Canceled LucasArts Games

In a big blowout feature from Kotaku entitled "How LucasArts Fell Apart," news surfaced that among the games canceled in the studio closure was a HD remastered version of Day of the Tentacle.

Did you hear that? That was the sound of my heart breaking.

Kotaku's sources say that despite the fact that the game was never officially greenlit, it was actually roughly 80% completed by LucasArts Singapore. This remake of Tim Schafer and Dave Grossman's classic point-and-click adventure game would've followed in a similar vein as pair of HD versions of the Monkey Island games. Anyone who's played the original DotT knows that it still stands as one of the finest adventure games of all time, and certainly one of the most influential. The fact that this will most likely never see the light of day is sort of the worst.

What DC TV Slate Means for a Shared Universe

Well, this week threw a wrench in that whole “DC already has a shared universe” theory, huh?

With the announcement of the development of Gotham (at FOX) and Constantine (at NBC), Warner Brothers has me doubting the possibility of them taking advantage of their opportunity to make Man of Steel and their various TV properties all share the same world. Though all of the shows are indeed still being produced by WB, the multiple networks make it a much harder sell for a crossover. It could be that the shows could act independently of Man of Steel in their own little universe, much like Smallville did with Superman Returns; sort of a supplement to the big screen properties.

The History of Naughty Dog: Origins of a Powerhouse

Gamers today know Naughty Dog like movie-goers know Spielberg and Scorsese, and there's a reason for that. The minds there continuously make some of the industry's best games, ones that push the boundaries of graphical fidelity and storytelling in particular.

In the mid-to-late '90s, the studio was best-known for Crash Bandicoot, but as time has gone on -- and since it joined Sony's first party stable -- Naughty Dog's drive to create the best mascot platformers, like Jak & Daxter, has evolved into some of the most stunningly realistic and engaging story-driven action titles of the current generation in the form of the Uncharted trilogy and The Last of Us.

I’ve already written The History of Sony Bend, The History of Sony San Diego, The History of Santa Monica, and The History of Insomniac. But one piece I’ve wanted to write more than any other is The History of Naughty Dog. After (literally) years of trying to tell this story, I was finally given the access necessary for such an endeavor, one that covers three decades of riveting history from Sony's crown jewel developer.

The tour will span more than 75 cities in the United States, Canada, and Europe, including Los Angeles, New York City, Boston, and Berlin. The tour begins on October 1, runs for the remainder of the year, and consists of two different types of experiences.

China Lifts Ban on Foreign Game Consoles

China officially lifted a 13-year ban on foreign console sales today, and made plans to allow for foreign tech companies to establish streaming and entertainment services in the country.

The regulations are vague, giving foreign companies few specifics to estimate how much of an impact the new rules will have. The State Council will release more details in the coming months, the Wall Street Journal reports.

The State Council did outline, however, that any companies interested would need to "ensure information security," and any violations would need special approval from China's cabinet.

Big Bang Theory: "Deception Verification" Review

Warning full episode spoilers follow.

Well, if you've been jonesing for new Big Bang Theory over the summer, CBS opened the floodgates Thursday with a pair of new episodes. And as uneven as the show was in Season 6, it was great to see that both episodes were above average. Hopefully that's a good indiator for the season as a whole.

I reviewed "The Hofstadter Insufficiency" before watching "The Deception Verification." So it figures that when I said we'll see how Leonard's field trip plays out over the early course of Season 7, the very next episode sees him return home. But it wasn't that surprising considering how redundant that storyline was. Instead, this second episode hinged on the sort of comedy of errors you only see in sitcoms. Leonard's attempt to return home early and surprise Penny led to a rift in the normally rock-solid Leonard/Sheldon friendship.

Sony: Value Is More Important Than Price

Sony's UK managing director believes that, while the PS4's initial price point is an advantage over the Xbox One's, value will be more important to customers in the long run.

"Price isn't everything," Fergal Gara told CVG. "It's an advantage, but it can move over time.

"Value to the customer is everything, which is price and quality of content for that price. We feel in very good shape on that front. We're really pleased."

Gara mentioned the PS4's indie launch lineup, which consists of "about 20 games" by independent developers set to release in the console's launch window. Inversely, Microsoft has said that its Xbox One indie games initiative won't result in any indie games until early 2014.

She-Hulk Gets a New Solo Title

You've seen her (and loved her) in the pages of FF as of late, but now Jennifer Walters is headed back to her own solo title at Marvel Comics. She-Hulk #1 will debut in February 2014, written by Charles Soule with art by Javier Pulido.

From Marvel's press release: "With a brand new practice, new paralegal, and a mounting number of personal enemies both super-powered and not, She-Hulk may have bitten off a bit more than she can chew…but hey, she just calls that Tuesday."

In an interview with USA Today, Soule said, "One of the things I want to explore is the fact that she wants to be exceptional at everything she does, but that's not always possible. You can spread yourself too thin. She'll be out on her own, without much of a support group at first, a total underdog trying to make good. I love stories like that — Jen's going to be very easy to root for." One interesting connection comes from the fact that Soule is a lawyer himself, so we can rest assured that the depiction of the pressures of that career will be true to life.

38 Studios Assets to Be Sold in November

After months of waiting, the assets that once belonged to shuttered development studio 38 Studios will go up for auction in November, including the IP rights to the Kingdoms of Amalur series.

The liquidation auction will last for just over a day, beginning on November 13 at 9 a.m. Eastern and running until November 14 at 12 p.m. A website has been set up outlining the assets, including technology and intellectual property rights, that will be available to the highest bidder.

While only one game -- Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning -- was ever released, the Amalur franchise was designed to be much more. An MMORPG, known as Project Copernicus, was in the works (see its leaked trailer below), complete with expansive lore. The Amalur rights include the MMO, the rights to create a sequel (something which includes the work already done on Reckoning 2), and the revenue still being generated by Reckoning.

The Big Bang Theory: Season 7 Premiere Review

Warning: full episode spoilers follow.

CBS kicked off the seventh season of The Big Bang Theory this week with two new episodes. The actual premiere, "The Hofstadter Insufficiency," obviously played on the effect Leonard's absence has on his friends back in California. I wasn't particularly excited about this new direction for the series, as Leonard being away on a research vessel seems entirely too reminiscent of Wolowitz spending the early part of Season 6 on the International Space Station. But this episode did a fine enough job of exploring the fallout.

True to the title, there was very little of Leonard in "The Hofstadter Insufficiency." But that was probably for the best. The key difference between Leonard and Wolowitz is that the former is having a ball being far from home and living it up with his fellow science geeks. There's not much conflict to explore on his end, or even much humor beyond the sight gag of Leonard partying it up like he's in a club in Ibiza. Chuck Lorre, Bill Prady and their crew also took the opportunity to squeeze is a budget-blowing shot of Leonard being eaten by a kraken, so I guess there's that.

Who's Already Out of This Year's Oscar Race?

As shocking as this may sound to a layperson, this year's Oscar race is already well under way and now several would-be contenders for some of the major Academy Awards have dropped out of the running.

Sony Pictures Classics has shifted the release date of Capote director Bennett Miller's true crime tale Foxcatcher -- starring Steve Carell, Channing Tatum, and Mark Ruffalo -- from December 20 to 2014, effectively nixing its chances of competing in the next Oscars.

The filmmakers are said to have needed more time to complete the picture. This date change also takes Steve Carell (see how they transformed his look for the film in the photo below) out of the running in the Best Actor race.

Mighty No. 9 Adds Vita, 3DS Stretch Goals

The Kickstarter campaign for Mighty No. 9, the new Mega Man-like game from Mega Man creator Keiji Inafune, has far exceeded its original goal. With four days left to gather money, developer Comcept has introduced a new stretch goal which, if reached, will see the game come to PlayStation Vita and 3DS.

Despite a goal of only $900,000, Mighty No. 9 has garnered more than $2.6 million in pledges over the past four weeks. Four days remain before the campaign comes to an end, and so Comcept and Inafune have given prospective and existing backers a reason to either pledge some or more money than they already have. If the campaign's total reaches $3.5 million, digital versions of the game will be developed for both Vita and 3DS by the same team responsible for the PlayStation ports of Hotline Miami.

Batman: Akrham Origins Cheaper on Wii U?

Batman: Arkham Origins for the Wii U will be cheaper than its Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and PC brethren. According to Kotaku, the Nintendo version will run you $50, which is $10 cheaper than the other SKUs.

This discount is likely due to the news that the Wii U version will not contain a multiplayer mode, which we reported on a few months back. The Crew's New York is Bigger Than GTA 4's Liberty City

Ubisoft's upcoming MMO-racer The Crew will feature a version of New York City that's slightly bigger than Grand Theft Auto IV's Liberty City.

That's according to the game's lead designer Serkan Hassan, who made the claim when asked whether the game would be supported with additional location DLC in an interview with IGN. He also revealed that New York is just one of around 16 cities that will appear in the finished game...so expect to lose a significant chunk of time if you want to see everything.

"I don't think anyone for a considerable time will be petitioning us for more location DLC. I don't think it'll happen," he said. "I mean we've given you a landmass where New York City in our game is the size of Liberty City in GTA 4. So I think we'll be safe for a while.

Hugh Jackman's Life In Trailers

In 2000, Hugh Jackman got his big break as a last-minute addition to the cast of the first X-Men movie, stepping into the iconic claws of Wolverine. Now, 13 years down the line (and seven X-Men films later), he's one of Hollywood's most in-demand stars, and his latest film Prisoners sees the Aussie actor take on one of his most challenging roles to date.

Keller Dover is a survivalist family man, pushed to the edge after his daughter is kidnapped, who goes to extreme lengths to get to the bottom of her disappearance. "It's a role that required a rawness, a ferocity, and a sustained emotional intensity," explains Hugh in our latest Life In Trailers, "That was something I hadn't been able to sink my teeth into before".

See the Kurt Russell Snake Plissken Game that Never Was

A never-before-seen glimpse of a cancelled Kurt Russell Snake Plissken game has been dredged up from the depths of 2003 and published on Vimeo. The video was posted three weeks ago but has only now been uncovered, courtesy of Kotaku.

Back in July 2003 it was revealed Snake Plissken, the iconic leading man in John Carpenter’s classic Escape from New York (and somewhat less-loved Escape from L.A.), was all set to be featured in his very own videogame (announced as Snake Plissken Chronicles).

Parks and Recreation: Season 6 Premiere Review

Warning: Full spoilers for the Parks and Rec season premiere follow...

PARKS IS BACK!

Sorry, but it's worth shouting from rooftops. Especially with the onslaught of mediocre new network comedies taking up precious primetime real estate this fall season. And not only was "London," Parks and Recreation's hour-long Season 6 opener (hey, remember how every season after the first almost never happened?), a triumph of whimsey and laughter, but it also totally spit in the face of the notion that a TV series should show signs of withering after a certain number of years.

But I've always maintained that the Parks characters (even/especially the grumpy ones) are just too great to run out of gas. Unlike, say, The Office, which only contained a few likable characters and then a bunch of people who I didn't enjoy spending all that much time with (hey, like most office-offices!). Another thing this Parks season premiere hard working against it before its airdate is the fact that it's a big "trip" episode - something that usually is the hallmark of a show that's out of ideas. But beating all pre-concieved notions back with a stick, "London" was remarkable.

Carnivores: Dinosaur Hunter HD Review

The premise of Carnivores: Dinosaur Hunter HD sounds like a kid’s (awesome) fantasy: You’re a rich, space-traveling guy from the future who hunts dinosaur-like creatures on a distant, suspiciously Earth-like planet for sport. At least, that’s what it says on the PlayStation website. Carnivores itself never really mentions it, instead choosing to send you on a hunt with no preface and no purpose. This sets the tone for the entire experience – slow, aimless, bland, and not nearly as exciting as the name would have us believe.

Terrible reload timing. Terrible reload timing.

Bryan Cranston's Power Rangers Past

This Sunday will see the end of a television era, as Breaking Bad airs its final episode. Bryan Cranston has given a legendary performance on the series, rightfully earning numerous awards in the process. Of course, Cranston wasn't always known for such dramatic, chilling work... And no, I'm not talking about Cranston's wonderful, comic performance on Malcolm in the Middle. I'm referring to his past on Mighty Morphin Power Rangers!

Cranston's Power Rangers past was brought up in recent months during interviews with folks like Jay Leno and Stephen Colbert. But back in 2009, while interviewing Cranston and Vince Gilligan for Breaking Bad's second season, I asked Cranston about Power Rangers, after I saw the credit on IMDB.

Bob's Burgers Renewed for Season 5

Just days before Season 4 of Bob's Burgers is set to debut on September 29th, the producers have gotten very good news, with FOX announcing the show has been renewed for Season 5.

As is usual, the renewal on an animated series has to take place early, due to the long lead time needed for the animation. Season 5 will be comprised of another 22 episodes.

Said Kevin Reilly, Chairman of Entertainment, Fox Broadcasting Company, “Bob's Burgers is one of those rare finds that just continues to outdo itself, creatively. The show has become a key member of our Sunday Animation Domination family, and we're looking forward to attracting new fans with another season.”

Boardwalk Empire Renewed for Season 5

A few weeks into airing its fourth season, HBO has renewed Boardwalk Empire again for Season 5.

Said Michael Lombardo, president, HBO Programming, “Thanks to Terry Winter, Martin Scorsese, Tim Van Patten, Howard Korder and their stellar team, Boardwalk Empire remains in a class by itself. I look forward to another electrifying season of this impeccably crafted series.”

While specifics were not given, presumably Season 5 will be back next September, per usual for the series.

Ranking the Dexter Seasons

Spoilers for all of Dexter follow...

Now that the final body has been dumped, the storm has dissipated, the beard has been grown, and the faces have been palmed, it's time to look back at all of Dexter and reflect upon the good times and the bad. It might take a while for fans to get over the sting felt by many about how the show ended, and perhaps for Dexter to be looked at (wholly) as something more than an abject mess, but tempers are still running hot.

Killzone: Shadow Fall's Framerate Isn't Locked at 60, And Here's Why

Whereas a game like Call of Duty: Ghosts prides itself on running at 60 frames per second at all times, Killzone: Shadow Fall doesn't always manage to sustain that mark in multiplayer -- but, according to the game's developer, that really doesn't matter.

Shadow Fall, the PlayStation 4-exclusive first-person shooter from Guerrilla Games, runs at 60 FPS in multiplayer "a lot of the time," the developer stated at the Eurogamer Expo today. Lead designer Eric Boltjes told Eurogamer the reason behind that particular detail is "tricky."

River City Ransom Sequel Kickstarter Nears $100,000

The Kickstarter campaign for an officially licensed sequel to River City Ransom is approaching the $100,000 mark. In order to be funded, it must raise about an additional $75,000 during its final two weeks on Kickstarter.

The crowdfunding campaign for River City Ransom: Underground began on September 9. The project is being put together by Conatus Creative, a small studio that has already licensed the rights to create an official River City Ransom game. That process involved turning to the IP's owner, Million Co., a company founded by former employees of Technos, the defunct developer of games like River City Ransom, Super Dodgeball, and Double Dragon.
