Aquaman Annual #1 tells a story completely isolated from what’s happening in the main Aquaman series. It features Aquaman joining back up with the Others for an impromptu mission to recover a stolen Atlantean artifact. Any excuse to see the Others team up again is a good one, yet writer John Ostrander handles the story with too much obvious dialogue and a lack of unpredictable twists. It’s not a bad story by any means, but the characters have stiff speaking patterns and the plot is crystal clear from start to finish with none of the mystery and intensity that make the Others so exciting to read.
