The Leftovers: "Guest" Review

Warning: Full spoilers for the episode follow…


With the awesome, transcendent "Guest," The Leftovers quickly returned to the single character story focus that had already been established, back in "Two Boats and a Helicopter," as one of the show's strong suits. Now focusing on Matt's sister, Nora Durst (née Jamison), we once again followed a character seemingly beset upon on all sides by unseen enemies and forces just beyond her reach.


In the very same way that the notions of fate and destiny constantly toy with male leads Kevin and Matt, Nora too felt the consistent sting, and dark jest, of life’s cruel punchlines; finding herself delicately balancing on that line between sanity and delusion. Was she being f***ed with? Was there someone or something just off screen, right out of reach, messing with her? Or was she becoming more and more of a raving paranoid like Kevin? The kind of person who would go out of their way to dismantle a toaster oven to retrieve a bagel or shout at a dry cleaner shop owner to get some white dress shirts?
