Google was unable to close the deal to buy Twitch over concerns for potential antitrust issues that may have arisen from the acquisition, Forbes reports.
The report came to light as news broke that Amazon, and not Google, will acquire Twitch and its outstanding shares for $970 million USD before the year is out.
Citing sources familiar with the talks, Forbes reports that Google was unable to close the deal due to potential antitrust issues as the company already owns YouTube. The arm offers similar services to Twitch, such as live streaming and on-demand video content of video games. Due to the concerns, according to one source, the two companies could not agree on the size of the potential breakup fee if the deal did not eventuate.
