Orphan Black: "Variable And Full Of Perturbation" Review

Note: Full spoilers for the episode follow.


So, how about Tony, huh? Orphan Black took a big swing this week with the introduction of the “trans clone”, but I felt they really made it work. Do I even have to say a lot of that was due to Tatiana Maslany, who once more fully committed to crafting a distinct personality with unique traits - and one whom couldn't be more different than any clone we'v seen before?


But yeah, how freaking weird was Tony and Felix making out?! (My exact notes as I watched this episode read, “SO WEIRD!!!!” but with more exclamation points) He may be her “foster” bother, but Felix and Sarah are so firmly established as siblings that seeing him kissing someone who looked like her was bizarre. Not to mention the entire gender-bending aspect of the situation, given Felix’s sexuality and who Tony is. I saw this episode with a packed room of fans at the ATX Television Festival, and suffice to say, that kiss got a big reaction. This show certainly isn't afraid to get quirky, and then some, which is to its credit. And having Tony actually call Felix "sister kisser" was a great way to wink at the oddity of the situation.
