If you’re looking for the good, kid-friendly fun that the DC Animated Universe used to deliver on the regular, look not to recent fare like the grim New 52-inspired Justice League: War, but instead to the Giancarlo Volpe-directed JLA Adventures: Trapped in Time.
Volpe, a veteran of beloved shows like Star Wars: The Clone Wars and Avatar: The Last Airbender, brings a familiar and thrilling sense of joy to Trapped in Time that calls back to the DCAU of old. It’s not the most original superhero story ever told; Lex Luthor pulls a Terminator and uses a being known as the Time Trapper to go back in time and prevent Ma and Pa Kent from ever finding baby Kal-El, thus eliminating Superman and by extension, the Justice League. Despite the typical plot, Trapped in Time delivers big on what matters most – the characters – and provides plenty of action to go along with it.
