Square Enix Montréal announced Hitman: Sniper today, a free-to-play game releasing later this year for mobile devices and tablets.
The developer previously worked on Hitman Go, the turn-based strategy series installment, but Hitman: Sniper will be more akin to Hitman: Sniper Challenge, the standalone experience that preceded the release of Hitman: Absolution. Hitman: Sniper is built around replayability, with a variety of different scenarios in which players can practice alternative approaches, Square Enix writes on the Hitman website.
Although the game is free-to-play, in-app purchases will grant players early access to new assassination contracts and sniper rifle upgrades. However, as is common with free-to-play models, these features can also be unlocked through in-game play. Square Enix said the free-to-play model will allow easier access to a wider audience and, in doing so,will increase the level of competition in Hitman: Sniper.
