Fargo: “A Fox, A Rabbit, and A Cabbage” Review

I wonder if Malvo had ever heard the Little Shop of Horrors dentist song before he chose that as his secret Kansas identity. I like to imagine that he was enjoying a secret sadistic joke, laughing even as he immersed himself in tartar; gingivitis plagued gums, and exposed nerves. So much of what Malvo does remains a mystery, after all. It’s as if there is an elaborate game afoot, but he’s the only one who’s seen the rule book.


People are his playthings, his living, breathing (at least initially) toys. Those eerie tapes he listens to made another appearance this week, giving us another glimpse into Lorne’s house of horrors of a psyche. It’s interesting, this week’s entry also highlighted – once again – that this particular Midwestern “true crime” tale is not to do with money. In Malvo’s case, one has to wonder just how much green he invested in those six months as the “hoot” of a dentist in order to secure a 150K bounty. He was certainly willing to let it go quickly enough in order to make a point to Lester – and for the kick of the look on his “friends” face just before he blew it off.
