This is the one we’ve been waiting for. When last we saw him, The Governor had fully embraced his role as a smooth-talking, southern gentleman, mini-Stalin who slaughtered his own people for daring to question him. He snapped. Knowing that David Morrissey was set to return as a series regular for Season 4, the big questions have been: Where has he been? When will he return? How? And is a redemption story possible for this brutal man?
It’s interesting, The Walking Dead often does better with their more focused installments, and there can be none more focused than this one in which the whole of the story is spent on one central character. At the same time, “Live Bait” is so unlike what’s preceded it that it becomes a bit of a challenge to review in the context of the series on the whole. Having said that, this was, just in the sense of making a controversial choice, the one I am most fascinated to see the fan response to.
