The latest big screen adventure for Marvel’s God of Thunder certainly upped the ante in terms of aesthetic design, and thankfully the Blu-ray release offers a worthy transfer that showcases the Nine Realms in spectacular fashion. From Asgard to the titular Dark World, director Alan Taylor’s vision for Thor is brought to life in a numbingly beautiful way.
The transfer presents all of the different elements effectively, from the softness of the Dark World to the sheen of Asgard to the overcast grittiness of London. It’s impressive how much the presentation here adds to the experience, subtle differences in colors that I hardly noticed in the theatrical release. The audio is equally impressive, offering a nice, crisp balance between the thunderous action and tender character moments between Thor and Jane or Thor and Loki. Technically speaking, the Thor: The Dark World Blu-ray is the best one could hope for in a home theater experience.
