Alfred Hitchock’s 1963 classic The Birds is one step closer to a remake. Dutch director Diederik Van Rooijen has reportedly signed on to helm the film.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Van Rooijen will direct the long-gestating remake, which will be produced by Michael Bay, Andrew Form and Brad Fuller from Platinum Dunes, along with Peter Guber and David Zelon of Mandalay Pictures.
Van Rooijen directed the foreign thriller Taped (which will get an English version) and created the Dutch television series Penoza, which has been adapted by ABC in the U.S. as Red Widow. The Birds will be his North American feature film debut.
