The Equalizer Film Adaptation Gets a Sequel

The Equalizer doesn’t open in theaters until September but favorable reactions to test screenings have prompted Sony Pictures and Escape Artists to announce a sequel is already in the works. Screenwriter Richard Wenk (The Expendables 2, The Mechanic, 16 Blocks), who wrote the first film, will pen the script.


Based on a popular 1985 TV show, the film adaptation of The Equalizer stars Denzel Washington as retired intelligence officer Robert McCall. In the series, McCall advertised his pro bono troubleshooting services to crime victims who had nowhere else to turn. The film version, directed by Antoine Fuqua (Olympus Has Fallen, Training Day), finds McCall in the crosshairs of the Russian mob thanks to an act of kindness toward a prostitute played by Chloe Grace Moretz (Carrie, Kick-Ass). Melissa Leo, Bill Pullman, Haley Bennett, David Harbour and Marton Csokas also star.
