Star-Crossed: “Pilot” Review

Advance review: A new series with drama, aliens, and romance is coming to The CW. Star-Crossed has the above, and that surface level view is about it so far.


The new series produced by too many people to list explores the effects of an alien spaceship crashing into Earth. The new race, Atrians, were escaping their dying homeworld. The humans, of course, construe this as an attack. A battle ensues and Atrians are put into a segregated camp – like District 9 – and treated like crap.


But there is hope, or love, or something.


The title of the series telegraphs the forbidden love plot point, so I don't feel it's a spoiler to say one of the aliens and a human have intertwined fates. Roman (Matt Lanter) and Emery (Aimee Teegarden) are meant to be together. From what we see in the pilot, it seems as if they're going to be thrown together too quickly for chemistry to develop – between both the characters and the actors. That would parallel the story of Romeo & Juliet, sure, but that's a play that takes a few hours instead of a television show with several episodes.
