The remake of RoboCop had a lukewarm debut at the domestic box office this Valentine's Day/Presidents' Day weekend, while The LEGO Movie easily remained in first place with an estimated $48.8 million. The animated blockbuster (or is that block builder?) has made $129 million domestically so far.
RoboCop was only one of three remakes of 1980s movies released last week. Of the three, About Last Night fared the best with a second place finish of $27 million.
RoboCop, which opened Wednesday, earned an estimated $21.5 million for a third place showing. (Total Recall, another remake of a Paul Verhoeven film, had a stronger debut in 2012 with $25.6 million.) The pricey reboot has made roughly $70 million in the weeks that it's been out overseas so it remains to be seen whether RoboCop has relaunched the franchise or not.
