Rockstar parent company Take-Two has revealed that 32.5 million copies of Grand Theft Auto V have been shipped since launch. Keep in mind that this number refers to games that are sold-in (to retailers) rather than units sold-through (to consumers).
GTA’s success led to stronger than expected earnings for the third quarter of Take-Two’s 2014 fiscal year, which began on October 1, 2013 and concluded on December 31st. Take-Two brought in $1.86 billion in net revenue for the quarter, up from $415.8 million the year before.
“Take-Two’s business continued to outperform expectations significantly during the fiscal third quarter,” said CEO Strauss Zelnick. “Our results were driven by robust holiday demand for Grand Theft Auto V, the franchise record-breaking launch of NBA 2K14, the successful release of WWE 2K14, and strong growth in digitally-delivered revenues led by Grand Theft Auto Online. Take-Two was the top video game publisher of 2013, according to the NPD Group, underscoring our positive momentum over the past year.”
