Growing Up Fisher Review

Advance Review: Airing on NBC this weekend as "special previews", after the Olympics coverage, are two new comedies - Growing Up Fisher and About a Boy. One is about a boy and the other is, well, also about a boy. But only one of these boys has a blind dad. And that'd be the kid on Growing Up Fisher. Sorry, I should say the "Inspired by True Events" Growing Up Fisher, just in case you were about to get overly touchy about blindness being used for comedy.


About a Boy Review


I mean, you should be overly touchy, but only because using blindness for the core premise of your family comedy is one of the hackiest hack moves around. It's being justified here because creator DJ Nash's own father was blind - hence the "inspired by" part. Because, rest assured, if no one attached to this project had a blind father, this show would've never got made - much less made, renamed, renamed again, and then made again with a different actress playing the mother (the first pilot had Parker Posey as the mom).
