Captain America #17 Review

STK631296 This is a dark issue of Captain America. You wouldn't know it from the cover which features a guy in a bow tie armed with a candy cane and bubbles, but it's true. Dr. Mindbubble is free and he's a sinister and violent guy, despite his bizarre appearance. It's another step in Rick Remender's Captain America epic, and it's a good one. Violent, bloody and bleak, this run of Captain America is a weird one, but in a good way.


Remender's story is a slow burn; a comic that takes its time putting the pieces into place. This can work for and against the series, but if you have been following it since the beginning, you'll love the stuff you get in this issue. Steve is still struggling to with the scars of his time in Dimension Z and now a madman who produces mind-altering bubbles from a spout in his head is on the loose. Remender doesn't shy away from the weird, which part of what makes this run so great. It's fun, but at the same time filled with a bleak darkness.
